TORONTO (Reuters) - Investigators from Canada's safety watchdog have been sent to the site of a Canadian National Railway crude oil train derailment and fire in northern Ontario, the agency said on Sunday.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) said the derailment occurred about 80 km (50 miles) south of Timmins, Ontario. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
A CN spokesman said the train, heading from Alberta to Eastern Canada, derailed shortly before midnight on Saturday.
"The derailment occurred in a remote wooded area and there are no reports of injuries. There is a fire at the scene," Patrick Waldron said in an email.
Canada's largest rail operator said it has firefighting and environmental crews and equipment headed to the scene.
CN did not indicate how many rail cars had derailed or whether the crude oil had spilled, saying that was still being assessed.
