Unemployment figures fuel Obama campaign

The unemployment rate in the United States is at its lowest point since 2009 after falling to 7.8% in September. This is the first time that the figure has been beneath 8% since Barack Obama took office.

The news energized Obama's campaign for re-election following his recent debate with rival Mitt Romney, who won decidedly. The unemployment numbers are good, but analysts think that they need be combed over because the future of the United States labor market is still unclear.

For example, in September fewer jobs were created than in July and August (114,000 compared to 181,000 and 142,000 respectively). Certainly, the lower unemployment rate is good news, but a lot of questions remain.
