Catalonia companies flock to Madrid

There is new evidence that the fruitless campaign led by Catalonian president Artur Mas is still having negative effects on the region. Last December his attempt to make Catalonia an independent state failed, which harmed companies operating in there.

But recent scenes in Catalonia increase worries even more for the future of the region's businesses. Since 2010, 1,060 companies have moved their headquarters, changing their tax domicile to Madrid. That is 21% of the companies that were operating in Catalonia.

This mass exodus could continue next year. The flight to Madrid is not some panacea, because the city offers less bureaucratic red tape, lower taxes, and the stability that Cataolinia does not have right now.
