Euro group President Jean-Claude Juncker told Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras that he cannot provide an answer about extending the time period that Greece has to meet its EU-mandated obligations.
Everything points to Samaras getting the same response from Merkel on Friday, because Juncker and Merkel both to wait and hear what the troika's October report has to say about Greece before making any decisions. Further, Merkel faces opposing pressure from inside and outside of her party. Still, European leaders need to decide quickly if they will make a gamble on Greece or let it abandon the euro. In either case the solution will be costly for everyone involved, but Greece going off the euro could cause a political tidal wave in the Mediterranean region.
