Op-ed: RTVE planning an insufficient adjustment

The Spanish Radio and Television Corporation (RTVE following the Spanish abbreviation) is debating cutting 10% of its directors and lowering salaries across the company. Further, it could put a stop to outsourcing, one of the factors that contribute most to inefficiency for this public company.

The chain has squandered money by paying others to do work that it could have done using its own resources, which are often left idle.

Specifically, RTVE's payroll is 5.8 times the size of the personnel employed by Telecinco and Antena 3 combined. Plus, salaries are too high. An audit would show that specifics about company salaries lack transparency and are not subject to expert and economic scrutiny. RTVE could also give up, for example, its rights to sporting events.
