Mexican dairy company Lala takes control of Aeromexico

Mexico City, Feb 13 (EFE).- Grupo Lala, one of Mexico's largest dairy companies, has purchased a 20.19 percent stake in Grupo Aeromexico, giving it control of the airline company, the carrier said in filings with securities regulators.

A group of Mexican investors bought the stake in Aeromexico, Mexico's flag carrier, from Banamex, a subsidiary of U.S. financial giant Citigroup.

The investor group, which already held stock in Aeromexico, is led by Grupo Lala chairman Eduardo Tricio, who now owns more than 10 percent of the airline's stock, and Grupo Modelo vice chairman Valentin Diez Morodo.

Banamex is retaining a minority 16.11 percent interest in the carrier, Grupo Aeromexico said.

Aeromexico was acquired by Banamex and a group of Mexican investors for $249 million in 2007.

Grupo Aeromexico operates Aeromexico - the largest transcontinental carrier in the country - Aeromexico Connect, Aeromexico Travel and aviation maintenance company EMA.

Aeromexico operates more than 600 flights daily to destinations in Mexico, the United States, South America, Europe and Asia.
