Kosovo Serbs burn down border post

JARINJE, Kosovo (Reuters) - Serbs opposed to Kosovo's newly declared independence on Tuesday burned down a border crossing manned by Kosovo and U.N. police.

A Reuters witness said the police did not intervene as amob of masked men torched the Jarinje post on the internalboundary between Kosovo and Serbia known as Gate 1.

"The protesters have destroyed the border crossing post atGate 1 in Jarinje," A Kosovo police spokesman said. "No one hasbeen injured."

There were unconfirmed reports that a second such crossingknown as Gate 2 had also been burned down.

"Kosovo police and KFOR are carefully watching thesituation," the spokesman added. KFOR is the NATO-ledpeacekeeping force in Kosovo.
