San Juan, Dec 3 (EFE).- Businessman Anaudi Hernandez Perez, the chief fundraiser for Puerto Rico's governing PPD party, was among 10 people arrested Thursday as part of a federal investigation into corruption, the FBI said.
The arrests were carried out early Thursday, FBI spokesman Carlos Osorio confirmed to EFE.
Among the detainees are a former employee of the Puerto Rican lower house and an executive of state-owned water company AAA.
The detainees were taken for an initial hearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge Silvia Carreño Coll.
As part of the investigation, a number of PPD officeholders have been questioned over the past few months, including the speaker of the lower house, Jaime Perello Borras, whose campaign finance committee included Hernandez Perez.
Investigators have also questioned former government chief of staff Ingrid Vila Biaggi, Sen. Maritere Gonzalez, Public Affairs Secretary Jesus Manuel Ortiz and the CEO of AAA, Alberto Lazaro.
