Morelia, Mexico, Aug 18 (EFE).- Gunmen killed three men and two women in La Piedad, a city in the western Mexican state of Michoacan, state prosecutors said.
La Piedad, located on the border with Jalisco and Guanajuato states, is in an area being contested by different drug cartels, the Michoacan Attorney General's Office said.
The bodies were found on Monday inside a vehicle in downtown La Piedad, the AG's office said.
The unidentified victims appear to have been tortured and then shot several times with a pistol, the AG's office said.
The Caballeros Templarios and Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion organizations have been fighting for control of smuggling routes along Michoacan's borders with Jalisco and Guanajuato.
