Gunman kills 1 at Oregon high school

Washington, Jun 10 (EFE).- A gunman who entered an Oregon high school early Tuesday and fatally shot one student was later found dead inside the building, authorities said.

The incident took place at Reynolds High School in Troutdale, near Portland.

"Today is a very tragic day," Troutdale police chief Scott Anderson said.

Reynolds student Carmen Lively told The Oregonian newspaper that when she and other students were being evacuated from the school to a nearby church after the shooting, she saw that physical education teacher Todd Rispler had been wounded.

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that the situation at the school is now "stabilized"

When alerted about the shooting, close to 100 law enforcement personnel from several different agencies rushed to Reynolds and followed the usual evacuation procedures, state police spokesman Greg Hastings said.

The school has close to 2,800 students and classes had already started when the killing occurred.
