This past week The Standard, Downtown LA served as the official host hotel for the 2008 ESPY Awards, the American cable television network ESPN´s annual sports awards event. The star and star athletes of the ESPY Awards called The Standard, Downtown LA home leading up to the ceremony which took place on July 16th, broadcasting on ESPN on Sunday, July 20th. Ringmaster of the ESPY Awards, Justin Timberlake, hosted a celebrity–studded bash in the penthouse of the downtown hotspot with notables that included Samuel L. Jackson, Kiefer Sutherland, Joss Stone, and Mario Lopez.
This year´s ESPY Awards marked its debut at the new Nokia Theatre. The Nokia Theatre is part of L.A. Live, an integral part of Downtown Los Angeles´ much anticipated renaissance as the heart of culture in a city known as the entertainment capital of the world. In addition to accommodating the ESPY Awards sports elite and Hollywood A–List, The Standard, Downtown LA transformed its third floor into the ESPY Style Studio, a three–day gifting experience from July 14th through July 16th. On July 15th, the hotel also hosted a full–day downtown pool party and barbeque, featuring a menu by Executive Chef Yuji Iwasa.
