Nasdaq turns up on Microsoft

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Nasdaq turned positive to trade little changed on Thursday, helped by a rise in Microsoft Corp's shares, but the gloom from Wal-Mart's dim outlook kept the Dow and the S&P 500 in negative territory.

* Sears Holdings Corp was another positive underpinning to the Nasdaq after the operator of Kmart and Sears stores forecast quarterly profit above Wall Street estimates, sending its shares up more than 18 percent.

* Wal-Mart offered the starkest indication yet that consumer spending, which accounts for about two-thirds of U.S. economic activity, continues to falter as households fret about mounting unemployment and dwindling savings.

* President-elect Barack Obama is set to speak on the economy at 11 a.m.
