SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Nintendo Co Ltd <7974.OS> sold over 2 million Wii video game consoles in the United States in November, setting a record for console unit sales in a non-December month, the company said on Thursday.
"It was a stellar month," Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told Reuters. "No system has ever sold in the quantity that the Wii and the DS have today."
Consumer demand for both Nintendo's Wii and handheld DS game machines is still "exceptionally strong," Fils-Aime said, defying the retail gloom brought on by a global economic crisis.
Nintendo, whose Wii console competes with Sony Corp's <6758.T> PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Corp's
U.S. unit sales of Nintendo DS hand-held devices in November came to over 1.5 million, the company said.
