Stocks extend losses on recession fear

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks fell for a second day on Wednesday, with the S&P 500 down more than 5 percent, as a raft of disappointing profits added to fears of a global recession.

The Dow Jones industrial average was down 398.00 points, or 4.41 percent, at 8,635.66. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 48.20 points, or 5.05 percent, at 906.85. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 63.02 points, or 3.71 percent, at 1,633.66.
