NEW YORK (Reuters) -Stocks extended losses late on Friday, with the three major indexes falling more than 1 percent, as fears the economy will not be able to skirt a recession overshadowed U.S. lawmakers' approval of a $700 billion financial rescue package.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 136.92 points, or 1.31 percent, at 10,345.93. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 14.35 points, or 1.29 percent, at 1,099.93. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 25.13 points, or 1.27 percent, at 1,951.59.
