NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks surged on Thursday as investors shed some of their fears about the strength of the recovery after upbeat outlooks from economic bellwethers 3M , UPS and Caterpillar .
Based on the latest available figures, the Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was up 201.54 points, or 1.99 percent, at 10,322.07. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was up 24.02 points, or 2.25 percent, at 1,093.61. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was up 58.56 points, or 2.68 percent, at 2,245.89.
