COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said on Friday that China was committed to meeting and "even exceeding" a goal to rein in the growth of its greenhouse gas emissions by 2020.
"We will honor our word with real action," Wen said in a speech to a U.N. climate summit in Copenhagen. "Whatever outcome this conference may produce, we will be fully committed to achieving and even exceeding the target."
China has set a goal of cutting the amount of carbon dioxide emitted per unit of economic output by between 40 and 45 percent by 2020, from 2005 levels.
