NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks fell further on Friday after a survey showed consumer sentiment fell unexpectedly in October on persistent worries over the state of personal finances.
Stocks opened lower on disappointing results from Dow components General Electric Co
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> dropped 116.99 points, or 1.16 percent, to 9,945.95. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> fell 13.72 points, or 1.25 percent, to 1,082.84. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> lost 25.70 points, or 1.18 percent, to 2,147.59.
