NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks slid further on Wednesday, with major indexes dropping 2 percent as retail sales data came in worse than expected, blurring the economic outlook.
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> dropped 172.12 points, or 2.03 percent, to 8,296.99. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> fell 19.90 points, or 2.19 percent, to 888.45. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> lost 39.88 points, or 2.32 percent, to 1,676.04.
