NEW YORK (Reuters) - Stocks cut losses on Friday, with the Nasdaq briefly turning positive as an advance in technology stocks offset another session of declines in the financial sector.

* The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> fell 21.34 points, or 0.27 percent, to 7,911.42. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> lost 2.52 points, or 0.30 percent, to 832.67. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> shaved 0.62 points, or 0.04 percent, to 1,541.09.
