The last EU summit revealed that once again European nations do not agree on energy policy. The fact that Spain and Portugal are fighting to get 10% interconnection with France through 2020 or 15% through 2030 shows how much work there is to do.
Still, what Spain achieved in Brussels shows that the Commission is offering its support by financing up to 50% (2.5 billion euros) of the infrastructure costs. Three operators working in Portugal, Spain and France have worked out a successful deal that is bound to result in more than just a power interconnection.
