US economy zooming along

Six years after Lehman Brothers collapsed, the United States economy is showing clear signs of overcoming the crisis and regaining its former strength. The stock market, Wall Street earnings, corporate mergers and trading volume all show a return to business as usual.

So why has the US recovered the the euro zone remains mired in conflict and stagnant growth when problems in both continents were once equally severe? First, the American economy is more flexible. Second, its central bank acted swiftly and seriously as other players agreed to follow a single set path. These things did not happen in Europe, which perhaps explains why the region continues to bicker about reforms and wait for its recovery.
