When the government approved the Growth Plan for the Spanish Economy last Friday, which will pump 10 billion euros into the national economy, it promised that there would be no negative impact on the budget. Now the Finance Ministry says that it is working with Brussels in order to figure out the accounting.
At this point, it looks like Spain will budget 3 billion euros and another 4 billion euros will come from EU aid. Once again, the government is talking a lot about measures it will take without considering seriously what impact the measures will have on the national budget. Sure, we need plans that will stimulate the economy, but it is important to know ahead of time who will pay for it and how much it will cost.
