Corruption scandal hits AVE high-speed train

The AVE system has caught the corruption bug. Yesterday the Guardia Civil detained nine people on allegations of creating false invoices and making strange payments for undone work on a Barcelona AVE route.

The fraud was comitted during the time period when Magdalena Álvarez was in charge of the AVE system, and it could account for six million euros of lost funds, and Corsán may have to pay for the oversight. This latest scandal tarnishes the Spanish brand once again and highlights how companies in the nation are resorting to illegal methods of getting contracts and avoiding transparent and fair competition. The courts need to get to the bottom of this corruption case and make sure those who were responsible atone for their crimes against taxpayers.
