Regions unite to fight for financing

Aragón has called together six regional governments, representing 25% of Spain's population and 60% of its landmass, to establish a joint financing strategy. Castile and Leon, Galicia, Extremadura, Rioja and Asturias and Aragón have similar issues, and they are defending a policy that their people want.

And other regions are grouping together to defend their interests. Coordinating tax reforms and a regional government financing strategy will require a lot of talks. The goal is to balance spending and revenue and nix fraud at the same time. To achieve these goals, the regions will need more fiscal autonomy, which some of them are asking for, and an increased flow of tax information.
