The Spanish energy sector suffers from a sad irony. Its purpose is to light up the entire country, but its future could not be darker. After officials completed a nonsensical energy sector reform and the government lost its chance to deregulate the markets, now it is time to reform the wholesale power market.
The first step will be to govern nuclear profit gains on the energy market. Industry wants to pull some operations strings to discount the cost of nuclear power production and keep that market strong. But the government knows that this market is neither transparent nor competitive, so we need stiff measures and strong enforcement.
