Madrid revives AVE to Barajas Route

Spain will invest 150 million euros to connect the AVE train to the Barajas airport. This is a fair amount for a project that will turn Barajas into a major hub for high-speed rail travel. At least that is what Madrid hopes to accomplish

But the project rests on building a second Túnel de la Risa, a tunnel designated for high-speed trains only, that cuts through Madrid running north to south to connect stations at Atocha and Chamartín. This project t is underway, although delayed because the Public Works budget is running dry. Regional leader Ignacio González wants the AVE Barajas route now, but he may have to wait a while longer.
