Necessity is the mother of exportation for small businesses in Spain. Years of economic crisis has forced these companies to improve their bottom line by selling more products to foreign countries. Owing to a fall in domestic spending, 150,000 small businesses have figured out that there is no other way to keep their businesses running than to export more goods.
Since 2008, the number of export companies has increased by 35%. There are 40,000 companies that have been exporting for more than four years, and 70,000 of them don't invoice more than 5,000 euros per year.
These figures fuel hopes that this new trend will continue once domestic spending resumes. Small companies have figured out how to export their products, and it is necessary to support this kind of trade so that we can effect lasting changes on Spain's business model.
