When Rajoy was not in power yet, he said that public sector doctors were "poorly paid civil servants." Is the situation fixed because they are paid better now? This is the question that Madrid, Galicia and Valencia have dared to ask even though other regions remain quiet.
But what is clear is that in the healthcare system that our country demands, there is no room for doctors that get lifetime careers and steady pay regardless of their performance. Salaries need to be commensurate with the dedication that these doctors show.
The changes to the system are necessary and welcome. They will provide patients with better healthcare service and better salary incentives to doctors who prefer that their pay be tied to performance rather than tradition.
