Still difficult to open a business

In Spain is still very tricky to open a new business. The steps that policymakers have taken to improve the process are not enough. Getting rid of municipal licensing requirements and making the business registration process simpler were good measures to implement, but it still requires ten separate procedures and an average of 23 days to open a business.

We are losing our competitive edge compared to other countries where business conditions are more favorable, falling back to number 52 (six places below 2012 rankings) in the World Bank's "Doing Business" list.

Just one more example of how national reforms are weak and uncentered. Now that Spain is fashionable again for investors, we should also make it easier for businesses to capitalize on growth opportunities.
