Michel Barnier, an EU commissioner responsible for internal markets, restated the EU's position yesterday about the possibility of Catalonia seceding, saying that if the region does break from Spain then it will not be granted a spot in the EU.
Mas said that even if Catalonia is not part of the EU, it would still use the euro as its currency similar to what happened with Andora, Kosovo and the Vatican. Mas's statement was geared toward foreign investors who, according to the Catalonian president, are worried what will happen if Catalonia adopts a new currency.
