Pescanova selects its savior

Juan Manuel Urgoiti has been chosen to help the Galician fishing company Pescanova recover from its near collapse at the hands of former CEO Manuel Fernández de Sousa.

Urgoiti has been vice-president of Acciona and an advisor to Inditex CEO Amancio Ortega, among other roles. And he has deep experience in the banking sector from his time at Banco Gallego and BBV.

This pedigree will prove useful as Urgoiti tries to renegotiate Pescanova's enormous debt load. Even though he is 74 years old, this should not be a problem since Urgoiti has won support from many of the people that opposed De Sousa's management.
