Falling consumption across Spain has caused fierce competition, particularly in the fuel markets. Repsol has developed experimental low-cost gas stations in order to compete with fuel cooperatives and mall gas stations.
Twelve gas companies operate under the Campsa Express brand, which leverage their technologies to offer gas for around 8 céntimos per liter. These offerings, combined with management's decision to offer lower fuel prices on Friday, could enleash a price war that benefits drivers who don't typically see fuel prices moving lower.
Gas companies are smart to lower prices, becuase the fuel market is still struggling and people are suspicious that gas prices seem to always go up quickly when crude oil prices rise, but hardly ever go down when crude prices drop.
