Etno, the management company for European telecommunication companies, has complained to Durao Barroso about how rigorous the European Commission is being with local telecoms while letting multinationals from the United States (i.e., Microsoft, Google, Apple) enjoy better tax benefits than they can get in the US.
The United States and the EU are conscious of the problem, but they are not prepared to nix these practices because of their own self-interest. Ultimately, the EU will have to take the lead on rooting out these unfair tax tricks.
