After three years of investigation, the Barcelona Anticorruption Public Prosecutor has concluded that the global infrastructure company Ferrovial paid 6.6 million euros in comissions to the Democratic Convergence of Catalonia in exchange for cushy public works contracts such as the Línea 9 metro line (890 million euros) and the Ciudad de la Justicia in Barcelona (800 million euros).
Ferrovial kicked back 4% to say thank you for the favors. CDC received 2.5% and representatives from Palau de la Música received the rest. Spokesmen from the construction company have denied fishy deals multiple times, but this latest evidence suggests that they have clearly flouted the law.
The Justice Ministry should persecute these practices, which jeopardize fair competition among infrastructure companies and threaten democracy in Spain.
