Cleaning up the corruption mess

More than 300 corruption cases have been filed in Spain, and 1.2 billion dollars have been squandered in the process. It makes sense that the nation's population is unhappy about that state of the country's government and commercial landscape.

The good thing is that the cases continue coming up and the people who have abused their political or economic positions have been ruled against. The bad thing is that so much corruption has earned Spain a negative image globally and hurt the nation's government and corporations. This is not the first time in Spain's history that there was a need for starting over.

Any new law should help develop democracy in Spain. It is important that new transparency laws are actually enforced, and an agreement betwen political parties will be necessary in order for citizens to regain confidence in the various Spanish institutions that are mired in corruption.
