Madrid offers "minijobs" to workers

The Madrid regional government is offering unemployed workers who receive benefits six-month contracts working with tourist and cultural programs at various municipalities. Other regions have used this strategy before, but yesterday labor unions and the opposing party voiced their disapproval of Madrid's version.

They said that Madrid government employees are vying for the jobs. With the unemployment level so high, it doesn't make sense to reject flippantly a measure that will give jobless workers a role to fill.

The jobs that the Madrid government is offering will allow workers to gain experience, training and hopefully future employment. Government has been tasked with finding new ways to create jobs, so Madrid offering these minijobs is a positive and proactive measure to boost employment in Spain. Frente a la pasividad, hace bien Madrid en apuntarse a estos minijobs.
