One more year of job losses

Unemployment and Social Security filings hit a discouraging record high: five million workers are out of a job and the number of self-employed workers filing for Social Security fell beneath three million and numbers from across the country show that the trend is going to continue.

Although we?ll have to wait until spring to know for sure (jobs pick up then in anticipation of the summer tourist season), indicators suggest that economic slowdown and job losses will be less dramatic than expected earlier this year. The banks, real estate developers, Iberia and others will announce their ERE figures at some point during the next few months. In addition to job cuts to wage workers, Spain?s self-employed professionals will also continue to suffer. For this group of already-struggling workers, jobs will decrease in number through the end of the year.
