Ministry of Industry swayed by advice from EC

Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism José Manuel Soria is ready to accept advice from the European Commissioner of Competition Neelie Kroes. Doing so will rectify parts of a bill for Spain's National Commission of Markets and Competition that is currently beyond the scope of the EC's regulation.

The bill earned harsh censure from the power and the telecommunications sectors because they believed changes to the law would allow the government to have the last word on factors such as regulation, which was something that should fall within the oversight of the EC regulator and not the Spanish government. The Ministry of Industry will make the most the law-making process in order to introduce some amendments to the bill. Some time and hoop jumping could have been avoided if the Ministry of Industry had listened to complaints from these companies in the first place.
