Rubalcaba resorts to rabble rousing

Alfredo Rubalcaba missed a good opportunity yesterday to clarify the ongoing debate about political party accounts. The leader Spanish Socialist Workers' Party revealed that he spent 67,229 euros on his campaign in 2012, including expenses. In comparison, Rajoy spent 135,000. Rubalcaba attributed the difference to the Peoples? Party's "muddy" financial figures.

Mixing up illegal and legal forms of funding, Rubalcaba overlooked the most important points and resorted to demagoguery and ad hominem attacks against Rajoy. Rubalcaba, leader of the SSWP, faced the crowd with confidence, but failed to provide any proposals that add more control and transparency for the political parties. The problem is not corruption that has been revealed, but the fact that the parties are trying to keep it a secret.
