The CEOE (Spanish Confederation of Employers? Organizations) has looked closely at the position that former vice-president Arturo Fernández is in after employees from his restaurant chains accused him of paying workers off the books.
Although it is hard to prove these practices, they are endemic to the service industry. That said, business owners in the industry should lead by example, especially if they are, like Fernández, spokespeople for their peers. For this reason the chemical industry and the Basque employers? organization have asked the Madrid businessman to resign from his position. After what happened with Díaz Ferrán, the CEOE can?t allow any questionable practices to go unchecked. Yesterday Fernández asked for some time to reflect on the issue, and this request ought to be perceived as the pickup note to his resignation.
