Spanish Socialist Workers' Party chooses the wrong strategy

Voters don't understand all the ins and outs of politics, no matter what party they support. Nor do they accept how politicians do not do what they promise in election campaigns, leading to a split between politicians and their constituents.

The Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE following the Spanish abbreviation) is going through rough times, and its prospects for upcoming elections in Galicia and the Basque country are not good according to the polls. Even so, it is hard to explain or justify why the party is backing the November 14 general strike but did not back the strike on September 29, 2011.

Rubalcaba is torn between the opposition, pressure from his campaign bases and electoral interests. It looks like the latter two will count the most, but that is the wrong strategy for capturing votes during a crisis.
