The New Infraestructure and Transport Plan for Spain 2012 2024 (PITVI following the Spanish abbreviation) was presented yesterday in Congress, proposing 100 billion euros in cutbacks with respect to previous forecasts citing 220 billion in investments.
The crude economic reality in Spain has finally hit the Ministry of Public Works just when Minister Ana Pastor firmed up her ambitious plans to develop railroad and high-speed commuter trains as preferred methods of transportation for Spanish citizens. In other words, without devoting to a set schedule and paying attention to supply and demand factors.
This has been a year of reality checks considering that her predecessor left the Ministry of Public Works with 40 billion euros of debt.
