In the midst of some accounting troubles, Catalonia's government announced last week that it will build a casino complex in Salou that will be a replica of the Eurovegas of Madrid.
The benefits that this project will give to Catalonia are not clear at this point considering that the company in charge of construction is headquartered in Holland. Taxes generated from the project could end up going to that country instead of Catalonia. Overlooking this critical aspect proves that the Catalonian government prefers to divert attention away from its own problems and make the Diada an independent claim.
More important, Catalonia should remember that it is as easy to push nationalism as it is to control its outcome.
