The Catalonian government formalized yesterday its request for a 5.023 billion euro bailout from the Regional Government Liquidity Fund.
Catalonia is not the only government that will end up asking for financial aid. Valencia and Murcia have also announced their intentions to do so. Collectively they will receive 8.827 billion of the 18-billion euro fund. This amount could be insufficient if the regions ask for higher amounts. The spokesperson for the Catalonian government, showing characteristic Spanish pride, said that he would not allow other countries or parties to fund the bailout, because he wants to honor the support of Catalonian and all Spanish taxpayers. But whoever loans the money has the right to set terms and require that they are complied with.
