The government will stiffen the requirements necessary for people trying to access the Plan Prepara, a 400-euro stimulus check that jobless workers can receive once their main unemployment benefits run out.
The proposed change would primarily affect young workers living with their parents. Of the nearly 500,000 people that have received this stimulus since its inception, 15% of them are between 16 and 24 years old. Many of them abandoned their studies during the construction boom.
Ideally, these workers can receive the academic and vocational training that they missed out on so that they don't end up relying on the welfare culture. The benefits, according to the government's wishes, ought to be tied to effective means of placing jobless workers back in the work force.
