Spain is playing second fiddle on the international policy scene, which is dominated by traditional world powers.
Still, jealousy exists between Europe and Latin America. In order to strengthen this bond, the Minister of Foreign Affairs has started to prepare a deep restructuring of embassies there. Among other aspects, the restructuring will include a streamlining of foreign services and improving the business role of embassies in Latin America.
Minister Margallo wants the embassies to build a more commercial profile in order to avoid, as much as is possible, problems such as what happened with Repsol in Argentina and REE in Bolivia.
