In order to execute budget cutbacks in order to meet the budget deficit goal, Spain needs to reduce salaries and lower prices. In order to boost competitiveness, Spain needs to pass measures that liberalize business activity, making the country comparable with other European countries.
Yesterday the Spanish government announced a new legal business hours that will, in fourteen province capitals, allow businesses the freedom to choose their open hours and the ability to open on festival days. It will also do away with the struggles of several regions and give primacy to national government.
Liberalization will benefit businesses and their efforts to become more dynamic and create jobs, both of which are antidotes against the crisis and protectionism.
