Europe prepares for the final battle

Tensions reign in Europe in anticipation of tomorrow's EU summit, when the organization will attempt to draw a road map for the next ten years. And this is most important: to build a common policy for the euro.

The task will be difficult, because it entails repairing past errors committed when the euro was founded in the midst of present difficulties: long-term economic crisis and sharp division between the North and the South. As Northern states criticize the periphery, the seat of power in the EU is in Germany.

Understanding this context, the European Commission has put together working a document that attempts to create financial, fiscal and economic integration. That is to say, less sovereignty in exchange for greater coherence and solidarity across Europe.

This challenge, if not overcome, will lead to the euro's demise.
