Op-ed: Good news for tourism

The tourism sector, after a weak April, is hoping that this summer will be better than last, particularly the high-season in August. Business owners and the government are working together to boost tourism by 1-2% and improve on the 20.8 million tourists who visited Spain in 2011.

In regards to dollars spent per tourist, a 7% increase is expected. The number of tourists coming from Germany, France, Italy and Russia will increase considerably, but United Kingdom visitors will remain flat or flag in numbers.

The next approval of the Plan Integral del Turismo, which provides incentives business owners to diversify their offerings beyond beach activities, shows that things don't have to go badly in order to have reforms.
